IPL – Secrets | Indian Premier League

A Short Intro :

The incident that made IPL .In 2008, India and Australia played cricket against each other in Sydney. Ganguly, the captain of India, was at bat. Clarke calls “wicket” as he catches the ball as it hits the ground and moves towards the target. He should look for a third umpire to determine if the ball has hit the ground. But the Australian captain, Ponting, raised his fingers from the field without caring, and the referee gave the wicket without consulting the third umpire. Fans of cricket all over the world were upset by what happened. Australia, which was in charge of cricket then, was to blame. One can arrange to talk to a country at a particular time. In ICC tournaments, they can also change the order of the games to help them. The dictatorship has helped Australia get a lot done.

It’s been about eleven years since this happened. Today, India stands in the same place as an unmovable ruler. During the Asia Cup, Pakistan said the schedule was set to help India win. India is having a good year in international cricket, even though umpires have ruled in their favor in many countries and caused a lot of controversies. Several things can cause this. The IPL, or Indian Premier League, is the most well-known of these leagues. IPL is now well-known not just in India but also all over the world. We still need to remember the ICL show that it was based on.

ICL :

The England Cricket Board started 20-over cricket games in 2002. The Indian Cricket Board did not change much because of them. In India in 2007, the G family started the Indian Cricket Tournament. Kapil Dev was ready for what was going to happen. The BCCI is even more confused now because of what he did. The Indian Cricket Board said he had done things against the International Cricket Council. After this, the BCCI said it would take strict action and took Kapil Dev’s job as Chairman of the Indian Cricket Board away from him. Because Kapildev didn’t like the BCCI, he couldn’t get any of its benefits. All players who wanted to be on the Pakistan-Bangladesh team have signed contracts to play in the IPL. Because of this, they could only play in international tournaments.

Players participating in the IPL can’t be on the Indian team. It told the other boards to do the same thing. The ICL, which began because there needed to be more good stadiums, was running out of time. ICL started in 2008, and IPL, or the Indian Premium Link, began the following year. Lalit Modi appointed IPL President.

Start of Ipl :

The Indian Cricket Board decided that Kapil Dev’s 20-over match would be played there. It got harder to get star players from the world level. Ricky Ponting, Kane, de Villiers, Kevin Peterson, McCullam , Murali Taran, Gilchrist, and Makaya are all international players who have signed the deal. Players from Pakistan were also able to play in the first IPL. Some of Pakistan’s best players who weren’t signed when Kapil Dev started the IPL joined the league. The cities of Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Rajasthan, Kolkata, and Mumbai were used to divide the teams.

 Captains and Owners :

Captain for Bangalore is Dravid The captain of the Delhi team is now Sehwag, and for Hyderabad, Laxman, for Kolkata, Ganguly Punjab Yuvraj Singh. For Mumbai, Tendulkar appointed captains. The Chennai team named Dhoni as their captain. He was the captain of the Indian squad for 20-over games. On the other hand, Rajasthan chose Warne, an Australian spinner, to be the team’s captain at the auction. IPL teams were bought by rich people like Ambani, Mallya, and Steve Vaz, as well as movie stars like Shah Rukh Khan, PrithiZinda, and Shilpa Shetty. Lalit Modi made sure that the opening ceremony was a big deal. Because of how he ran his business, the Indian Cricket Board became the richest board.

Lalit Modi did a great job of going in the same direction as Kapil Dev. He played 20-over cricket because he knew it was a way to make money. The first season got off to a better start than most people thought it would. The stadiums were turned into a party. The names of actors and actresses were seen a lot in IPL. Lalit Modi made the IPL a vast moneymaker, but he didn’t care after that. So, there were gambling scandals during the second season of the IPL. The first season took place in India, but there was a problem with having the second season at home.

IPL to Host in South Africa

Lalit Modi said that this time, because of the 2009 parliamentary elections, the IPL should be held in India. P. Chidambaram was the Home Minister then, so he accepted Lalit Modi’s request. Instead, the Indian Cricket Board looked for another place to hold the match. The IPL management decided to hold the games in South Africa and did the work to make it happen. During the IPL matches in South Africa, 27 players, including some of the best Australian players, worked together to fix games. Lalit Modi had to use the BCCI’s anti-corruption unit to investigate the complaints, but the problems still needed to be selected.

Two New Franchise :

It was said that there were problems with how the broadcast rights for these games were given out and that Star Sports’ contract cost around 500 crore rupees. In April 2010, Lalit Modi was taken off the job. The BCCI then sent him an email with a list of 32 charges. Lalit Modi moved to London just a few days after he stopped being a commissioner and denied the claims against him. But he never once showed up in front of the Indian Cricket Board. In July 2010, Arun Jaitley, Jyoti Aditya Sinda, and others made up the disciplinary action committee. His answers could have been better. The cricketers have a lot to say about this issue of PCC. IPL ran into the following problem at this time.

The IPL’s leaders have announced that Pune and Kochi will be the home cities for two new teams. In this case, Sagana Group gave Rs 1802 crores to the Pune team. Rendezvous sold the Kochi team for 1533 crores at an auction. Sunanda Pushkar bought 70 billion shares of stock. People said that External Affairs Minister Sasitaroor was behind it and that Sasitaroor’s wife, Sunanda Pushkar, was added only after Randzvous’s bid. The United Progressive Alliance in the center had trouble with this claim against Shashi Tharoor. In April 2010, Sunanda Pushkar gave away her 70 crore shares because of this. Sasitharur gave up his job in the end. Lalit Modi was also said to have had something to do with this.

Corruption allegations were made against Lalit Modi :

In this situation, the Disciplinary Action Committee, led by Arun Jaitley Jyoti Aditya Sinda, gave its report in July 2013. Lalit Modi has been accused in a statement that is 134 pages long. Corruption allegations were made against Lalit Modi, and the BCCI was looking for his name. The report of this committee led the BCCI to start taking action against Lalit Modi.

A meeting was set up at a private, well-known hotel in Chennai. But Lalit Modi went to the Supreme Court to ask that this meeting be stopped. His request was turned down, though. As planned, the meeting went well. In this, Lalit Modi’s complaints were talked about. Bad things were proven to have been done by Lalit Modi. Because of this, the BCCI said that he would no longer be able to work for the cricket board in any way.

This meeting of the General Assembly only lasted half an hour. At this meeting, not a single person voted for Lalit Modi. After this happened, the case of Lalit Modi was given to the Enforcement Directorate. Later, when he was in London, both the then-chief minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje and the minister of foreign affairs, Sushma, said they had helped. During both of these times, Parliament was shut down. While these fights were going on, the IPL was the next big fight. The complaints about gambling that were written up in 2013 kept coming out for the next five years. When the Delhi Police arrested Rajasthan team players Srikanth, Anil Chavan, and Ajith Sanrila for working with gambling brokers, the cricket world was shocked.

Reason Behind the ban of CSK and RR

Srinivas, who was in charge of the BCCI board then, needed help with the problem. Gurunath Meiyappan, who is Srinivas’s son-in-law and a key player for the Chennai Super Kings, was named in the complaint. This caused the BCCI more trouble. The Mumbai police told Gurunath Meiyappan that he had to show up for an investigation into gambling, and he was then arrested for allegedly being involved in gambling. The arrest of Gurunath Meiyappan made BCCI President Srinivas step down.

But since most BCCI executives were on his side, no one talked about it at executive committee meetings. Srinivasan said that Gurunath’s case would be investigated fairly by the BCCI. Indian Cements said that Gurunath is neither the owner of the Chennai team nor its chief executive officer. Raj Putra, another owner of the Rajasthan Royals team, was also accused of gambling, along with Gurunath.

So, a two-person committee was put together. After a lengthy investigation, the two-person committee said that neither Gurunath nor Rajputra had done anything wrong. The Bihar Cricket Association surprised the BCCI, which had thought the matter was over. The Bombay High Court was asked for help by the Bihar Cricket Association. The High Court looked into this and found that the committee’s report was wrong. It was ruled to be incorrect. In the meantime, BCCI told Srikanth and Chavan they couldn’t play cricket anymore. The High Court’s decision shocked the BCCI, so they went to the Supreme Court.

Mutkal Committee

The Supreme Court put together a three-person panel led by retired Justice Mutkal to look into the IPL scandal independently. Nageswar Rao and Illai Dutta were part of it. The committee had four months to do its work. On February 10, 2014, the Mutkal Committee gave its report. In its statement, the Mudkal Committee said there is proof that Gurunath gambled and that he had given out much information about the 2013 IPL.Some people from the Chennai Super Kings team were also said to be involved. But Srinivasan, the head of the BCCI, had nothing to do with it.

The Supreme Court asked Srinivasan to step down so that a third party could look into the Mudkal Committee report. The Supreme Court said that Sunil Gavaskar should be the interim president. A group led by Rodho was put together to punish people involved in gambling.

After an investigation that took three months, the Rodho Committee banned Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, and Gurunath Meiyappan Rajputra for life.

Why IPL is Famous ?

For the 2016 IPL, two new teams were made. It was announced that these two teams from Pune and Gujarat would play in the IPL for the next two years. It was also planned to set up a government for the IPL council. Tamil cricket fans were despondent when the Chennai team was banned for two years. IPL went on for two years without teams from Chennai and Rajasthan.

Teams got back together in 2018. IPL went through some changes. Every team has to play each other twice. This was said once at home and again on the other land.
A lot of players have made the IPL popular outside of India. A lot of young players come from the IPL.
